Dr. Raffi Gurunluoglu, MD, PhD
Plastic SurgeonDr. Gurunluoglu completed his medical training (1984-1991), plastic surgery residency (1991-1997), doctorate in Anatomy (1997-2003) in Istanbul, Turkey. In 2001 and 2002, he did microsurgery fellowships at Cleveland Clinic, USA and Leopold-Franzens University, Austria.
In 2006, he was appointed as a chief plastic surgeon at Denver Health Medical Center, University of Health Sciences, Colorado (2006-2014). He joined the Department of Plastic Surgery, Cleveland Clinic, in 2014. In 2016, he was appointed Professor of Surgery, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Gurunluoglu has vast clinical and research experience. He performed the first total face transplant in the U.S.A. (Cleveland Clinic, May 2017). Dr. Gurunluoglu has been published extensively throughout his career in peer-reviewed journals and received numerous awards.
His research interests include flap physiology, microsurgery, microcirculation, composite tissue allotransplantation, and development of animal models.
